HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - A southwestern Kentucky man has been charged with solicitation of murder after police say he was recorded on a phone call discussing the plot.
The Kentucky New Era reported that Hopkinsville police arrested 28-year-old Steven Dewayne Mayton of Crofton at about 3 a.m. Sunday after officers heard a phone conversation between Mayton and a woman.
According to an arrest warrant, Mayton had been speaking on the phone with a woman, whose was not released, about wanting to "torture, maim and kill," a man. The identity of the man wasn't released. Police say Mayton then offered the woman $1,000 cash to find the man and lure him to where Mayton would kill him.
Mayton was in Christian County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Jail records didn't list an attorney.
