Security increased at Centre College for VP debate

DANVILLE, Ky. - Chain-link fences and concrete barriers have been installed on streets around Centre College in Danville, the most visible signs of increased security for Thursday's vice presidential debate.

Clarence Wyatt, the co-chairman of Centre's debate committee, told The Lexington Herald-Leader that all aspects of planning and putting on this year's debate are much more complex than 12 years ago when the college hosted its first vice presidential debate in 2000.

Starting Tuesday, key roads around the campus will be closing and those attending the debate will have their bags searched.

There are no public tickets to the debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Republican U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, but there will be video screens for people to watch nearby.

The debate will take place at 9 p.m. EST, Thursday.
