BENTON, Ky. - A debate over whether a western Kentucky community should legalize alcohol sales next month has taken an "ugly" turn.

Police say signs on both sides on the issue in Marshall County have been stolen and vandalized.

Sissy Wommack, who supports alcohol sales, told WPSD that that opponents are also starting to wear her down with their attitude.

She said described the debate as "ugly" and says she's been told that she should "leave town, pack my bags, keep my mouth shut."

Mylon Smith, who opposes alcohol sales, called it "a shame" that vandals used spray paint to write "yes" over the "vote no" sign he had in his yard. He says he knows the debate has emotions running high, but he wishes people would stay off private property.
