LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A first date for a Louisville couple ended tragically when the moped they were riding on collided with a car, killing one person and severely injuring the other.

Louisville police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley told WAVE-TV that a Ford Focus ran into the mo-ped driven by 34-year-old Edward Fey Jr. around 11 p.m. EDT Saturday. Smiley says Fey died at the scene, while his female passenger was taken to a nearby hospital. Her name was not released.

Smiley says neither Fey nor the woman were wearing helmets at the time of the wreck.

Fey's mother, Sharon Hanks of Louisville, says the pair were on their first date.

The investigation into the crash was continuing.
