Westwood family tries to stay warm, catches house on fire

CINCINNATI - A Westwood family's attempts to stay warm put them out of their home after early Monday morning fire.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 2946 Mignon Ave. at about 12:30 a.m.

Officials say the family's furnace was broken and they were heating the home with the fireplace instead; however, a crack in the chimney caused the the house to catch on fire.

The family was able to escape the flames without any injuries.

Officials estimate that the fire cause $8,000 in damage.

Officials have not released any additional details about the fire.
