CINCINNATI - Several dozen animals had to be rescued from a burning home in Mt. Healthy on Thursday.
The started around 10:45 a.m. in the 800 block of Adams Road. A passerby noticed the flames and called 911.
Responding officers are familiar with the home and the rescued animals and alerted firefighters that approximately 70 animals were inside the home.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and rescue a majority of the dogs, cats, snakes, rabbits, rats, mice, iguanas, guinea pigs and chinchillas. Crews continue to search for animals who are unaccounted for. Some animals did die in the fire, but the exact amount has not been determined.
The house was clean, in very good order and the animals appeared to be well taken care of, according to firefighters.
The woman believes a heat bulb used to keep reptiles warm started the fire.
There were no injuries reported to firefighters and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
