LINCOLN HEIGHTS, Ohio - A local mother and her brother are facing a cloud of suspicion, accused of smoking marijuana with children in their car.
Lincoln Heights police say they approached the car because it had become broken down. Upon smelling the pot smoke and seeing the kids, the officer asked the pair if they thought it was OK to do that around children. The mother allegedly told the officer she "didn't think it was against the law," while the kids' uncle just "shrugged his shoulders as if he didn't care," according to court records.
Brittny Sims, 24 and Davonte Ruffin, 23, both of Cincinnati, are charged with misdemeanor endangering children and both were found to have multiple outstanding warrants. The kids belong to Sims and are ages 6 and 4.
The arrest happened Tuesday night in the parking lot of a Wendy's near Interstate 75 on Mangham Drive in Lincoln Heights.
Both were released on their own recognizance after their arraignments Wednesday morning. Both have prior records. In the past, Sims was charged with possession of marijuana, while Ruffin did time for trafficking cocaine.
