CINCINNATI - Cincinnati city leaders have chosen Vine Street as the route for the streetcar project.

City Manager Milton Dohoney says the Vine Street option is the least expensive and is in the best position to allow for future expansion compared with the other choice that was considered, the West Clifton Avenue option.

The streetcar will run from downtown to the Clifton area and will connect with University Plaza, the Short Vine entertainment district and Christ Hospital.

The streetcar project is estimated to cost $128 million. City officials already have approved $64 million in city bonds that won't be issued until Cincinnati gets a matching amount of state and federal funding. The project received $25 million in government grant funding in July.
