Tyson donates more than 30K pounds of chicken to food bank

FAIRFIELD, Ohio - Tyson Foods is helping the Shared Harvest Food Bank feed hundreds of families.
The poultry company donated 31,500 pounds of chicken to the food bank. Shared Harvest in Fairfield will distribute it to food pantries in the region.
The people who run Shared Harvest say a donation of this much protein doesn't happen often. Plus, it's desperately needed this time of year as parents struggle with additional expenses as their children go back to school.
There are, "school supplies, book fees, school fees," said Tina Osso, Shared Harvest executive director.
"So this comes right at the time when parents are needing a real boost in their food budgets," said Osso.
The donation is part of Tyson's plan to donate 1 million pounds of protein over three years to help fight hunger.
