Sampson knocks down 32, late FTs

   Pioneers senior guards Andrew Sampson and Riley Barnes both hit a pair of free throws in the final seven seconds of the second extra session to seal Simon Kenton’s 80-75 double overtime win over South Oldham on Friday.

   Simon Kenton led by one prior to those foul shots and the Dragons had the ball, but the Pioneers’ defense forced a five-second call as South Oldham was unable to inbound the ball.

   Sampson finished with 32 points, including 10 in the two overtime periods. Barnes added 17 points, and senior guard Trevor Montgomery poured in 16 as Simon Kenton won its fifth straight game.

   The Dragons, who had their eight-game winning streak snapped, were led by senior guard Matthew Haysley’s game-high 34 points.

   BOONE COUNTY 38, ST. HENRY 37 – Rebels sophomore forward Brenden Stanley hit the go-ahead free throw with 5:12 left and neither team scored another point.

   The score was tied at 25 at halftime, but the teams combined for just 25 more points after the break.

   Sophomore forward Junior Stockwell came off the bench to put up nine points for Boone County, which has won seven of its last eight games.

   Senior guard Michael Best led the Crusaders with 15 points.

   HOLMES 50, COOPER 44 – The Bulldogs were able to extend their winning streak to 18 despite hitting just one fourth-quarter field goal.

   Sophomore guard James Bolden was 3-for-4 from the foul line in the final period, and seniors guard B.J. Coston and forward Chris Englemon drained a pair of free throws to put the Jaguars away.

   Bolden finished with a game-best 17 points, and Coston and junior forward Quinton Chames chipped in 10 points each for Holmes.

   Cooper junior guard Zach McNeil scored a team-high 15 points.

   SCOTT 73, DIXIE HEIGHTS 64 – Senior forward Nick Jackson scored 14 of his team-leading 22 points in the fourth quarter for the Eagles.

   Junior forward Jeremy Jackson tallied 14 points for Scott, which remained unbeaten at home this season.

   Colonels junior guard Brandon Hatton hit four 3-pointers and led everyone with 29 points.

   LOUISVILLE SENECA 80, CONNER 66 – The Cougars dropped their third straight game despite junior forward Samuel Hemmerich’s game-best 33 points.

   Hemmerich scored 12 of his points in the third quarter.

   Junior guard Landon Lamblez tacked on 12 points in the losing effort for Conner.

   BEECHWOOD 60, LLOYD 46 – Sophomore guard Jacob Huff hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter to help the Tigers jump out to an early nine-point lead.

   Beechwood senior forward Brandon Marksberry poured in 10 points in the fourth quarter to seal the game.

   Marksberry finished with a game-high 20 points, and Huff racked up 17.

   Senior guard Niko Carter was the lone Juggernaut in double figures with 10 points.
