   Junior forward Nicole Kiernan earned most valuable player of the Region 9 All ‘A’ Tournament as Newport Central Catholic beat St. Henry, 49-34 in the final at NewCath on Saturday.

   Kiernan scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, hitting four field goals including a pair ot 3-pointers. She finished with a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds.

   Sophomore guard Michaela Ware rolled up 10 points and five steals as the Thoroughbreds won their seventh straight small-school regional title.

   NewCath will play Pineville in the first round of the All ‘A’ state tournament at 1 p.m. on Jan. 23.

   St. Henry was led by junior guard Trisha Marks, who recorded 12 points.

   CAMPBELL COUNTY 60, CALVARY CHRISTIAN 40 – Seniors center Kaitlin Siegmundt and Taylor Robinson helped the Camels jump out to a 14-point first-quarter lead.

   Robinson scored eight points in the opening period, and Siegmundt added seven. Siegmundt finished with a game-best 17 points, and Robinson poured in 12.

   The Cougars were led by junior guard Sarah Roaden’s 16 points, including five of the team’s six 3-pointers.

   CONNER 62, MADISON SOUTHERN 38 – Eleven Cougars found their way on the scoresheet, led by junior guard Brooke Maines’ 11 points.

   Senior forward Jordan Scott racked up eight points and eight rebounds for Conner, which extended its winning streak to six games.

   FRANKFORT 62, HOLMES 54 – The Panthers hit 6-of-7 second-half 3-pointers to erase a nine-point halftime lead.

   Freshman forward Brianna Burbridge led Frankfort with 23 points.

   Sophomore guard Deja Turner tallied 16 points and eight rebounds, and senior forward Tamra Holder added 14 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs.
