Senior forward Cody Pearson rolled up 10 of his game-best 16 points in the first half of Newport’s 58-35 win in a Region 9 All ‘A’ opener at Bellevue.
Junior guards Jaquan Short and Michael Turner added eight points each for Newport, which will play Ludlow at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Senior forward D’Andre Thompson paced the Juggernauts with 14 points.

SCOTT 81, BOONE COUNTY 59 – Senior guard Josh Felts helped the Eagles take a 12-point halftime lead by scoring 14 points during Scott’s 31-point second quarter.
Felts led all scorers with 23 points, and senior forward Nick Jackson notched 20 points – eight in the third quarter and six in the fourth.
Junior Hunter Hixenbaugh scored 16 points, and sophomore Brenden Stanley poured in 15 for the Rebels.

COVINGTON CATHOLIC 74, HIGHLANDS 34 – Junior guard Nick Ruthsatz scored eight points in the first quarter as the Colonels jumped out to an early 13-point lead.
Ruthsatz finished with 16 points, leading all scorers.
Senior guard Nick Fredrick added 13 points for CovCath, which won by its widest margin of the season.
Senior guard Bailey Witte led the Bluebirds with 10 points.
