Lightning erase late 10-point deficit

   Villa Madonna erased a 10-point deficit in the final minute of regulation en route to defeating Ludlow, 74-67 in overtime on Monday.

   Blue Lightning eighth-grade guard Cole VonHandorf hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, forcing overtime.

   Villa Madonna scored all 12 of its points in the extra session from the foul line on 15 attempts.

   Senior guard Andy Piccirillo was 4-for-4 on free throw attempts in OT, and senior forward Thomas Steinkoenig went 8-for-11 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and overtime.

   Ludlow had several chances to seal the game but missed eight straight free throws in the final minute.

   The Panthers were led by junior center Jared Howard, who racked up 30 points.

   BELLEVUE 41, DAYTON 38 – Junior guard Tyler Ackerson hit a pair of free throws with 2.2 seconds remaining to extend the Tigers’ lead to three.

   Junior guard Zack Poinsett had given Bellevue a one-point lead with 6.7 seconds left on a runner from the baseline.

   OWEN COUNTY 63, WALTON-VERONA 52 – Senior forward Justin Shelton poured in eight of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to ice the game for the Rebels.

   Shelton also grabbed eight rebounds and dished for seven assists, and senior guard Zach Ripy racked up seven assists as well in the Owen County win.

   CALVARY CHRISTIAN 63, SILVER GROVE 57 – Senior guard Jake Lamb scored eight points in the fourth quarter as the Cougars erased a three-point deficit.

   Senior forward Nick Whitt – who recorded six points in the decisive final stanza – finished with a team-high 21 points for Calvary Christian, which won its first game of the season.
