   Senior point guard Anna Matchinga became the first player in Covington Latin girls' basketball history to record 1,000 points in the Trojans’ 48-29 win over Ludlow at the Stephanie Wilson Memorial Tournament on Thursday.

   Matchinga hit a second-quarter field goal to accomplish that feat. She needed six points to reach the 1,000-point threshold and finished with 19, including eight in the fourth quarter to help seal the game.

   Covington Latin senior guard Bridgette Hildreth led all scorers with 20 points, including eight in the final stanza.

   Below are the other three Thursday games from the tournament. All games were played at Bellevue.

   AUGUSTA 51, CINCINNATI ST. BERNARD 40 – Sophomore Jerica Kelsch rolled up a game-high 22 points in the Panthers’ win.

   Freshman guard Samantha Kennard scored all seven of her points in the second quarter to help Augusta pull away. Kelsch added five points in that frame.

   3-pointers: None.

   NEWPORT 52, DAYTON 31 – Freshman Kylie Orr tallied 18 points to pace the Wildcats.

   Orr scored 10 in the second quarter – hitting one field goal and knocking down all eight of her free throw attempts.

   Sophomore Katlyn Hoeh added 13 points and freshman Shaunye Stanley chipped in 10 for Newport.

   BELLEVUE 54, SILVER GROVE 22 – Tigers senior forward Jennifer Sexton and freshmen guards Makayla Bishop and Kira Ross scored all 27 of the first-quarter points.

   Ross scored 10 in the opening frame, Bishop racked up nine and Sexton poured in eight. Ross also finished with 13 rebounds, and Bishop dished for seven assists.

   Ludlow will play St. Bernard at 1 p.m. on Friday and Dayton will face Silver Grove at 3 p.m. in the consolation bracket. Augusta will play Covington Latin at 5 p.m. and Bellevue will host Newport at 7 p.m. in the winners’ bracket.

   BOONE COUNTY 62, PULASKI SOUTHWESTERN 58 – Rebels sophomore guard Alexis Switzer finished with a career high 27 points at the Cougar Classic at Conner.

   Switzer hit a field goal to give Boone County the lead in the final minute, and senior guard Jessica Jones hit a pair of free throws to ice the game.

   Switzer, who scored 13 of her points in the third quarter, also grabbed seven rebounds and stole the ball twice. Sophomore guard Macey Ford added 11 points.

   The Rebels will play Highlands at 9 a.m. on Friday and will face Highlands at 5:30 p.m.
