Stadtmiller hits winning layup for Mustangs

Junior center Sarah Futscher led the way with 18 points as Mustangs squeaked past the Panthers, 41-40 on Friday morning at the All ‘A’ Classic in Frankfort.

Classmate Abby Stadtmiller added 15 points to the effort, including a layup at the buzzer that sealed the win after Frankfort had taken a 40-39 lead on a three-pointer with 11 seconds remaining.

The Mustangs will play Newport Central Catholic, who defeated Webster County later Friday morning, in a semifinal at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

NEWCATH 55, WEBTER COUNTY 35 — Nicole Kiernan had a stellar morning to push NewCath past Webster County in the All' A' Classic quarterfinal.

The junior forward scored a game-high 31 points to go with 15 rebounds and five blocks as the Thoroughbreds led from the start.

NewCath's defense held Webster to just 19 percent shooting to advance to Saturday's semifinal game.

PENDLETON COUNTY 54, HARRISON COUNTY 48 — Pendleton County rallied late to win the seesaw battle.

   After losing an early nine-point lead, the Lady Cats regained the lead in the fourth quarter then pulled away for the win.

Bradi Boden's 21 points and another 13 from Taylor McClanahan led Pendleton, helping overcome a game-high 28-point performance by Harrison's Jordan Doram.

NEWPORT 56, LUDLOW 28 — Newport jumped out to an early lead, then cruised past Ludlow at home to run their win streak to four games.

Kylie Orr scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Ladycats to the win, while Debbie Kroth and Katlyn Hoeh chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Hoeh also added nine rebounds to the effort.

The Panthers were led by Mariah Green-Murphy's nine points.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY 77, CAMPBELL COUNTY 65 — The Indians' high-powered offense proved too much for Campbell County, steadily building their lead en route to the 12-point win.

The Camels got 18 points from Kailtlin Siegmundt, 17 from Molly Kitchen and 13 from Taylor Robinson, while Montgomery was led by Erica Rogers' game-high 19 points. The Indians had five players in double figures and went 21-for-21 from the free throw line on the night.

SIMON KENTON 81, WILLIAMSTOWN 56 — Paige Bosse scored 17 points and Sarah Tomlin 13 as the Pioneers got back in the win column after having their 13-game win streak snapped by a mid-week loss to Boone County.

Williamstown had three players in double figures, led by Michaela Kennedy's 17 points, but couldn't keep pace with Simon Kenton, who led by nine at the half and pushed its lead to 27 by the end of the third quarter.
