Rebels hit key late free throws

   Senior guard Jesse Schulze scored all five of his points in the closing minutes to lift Boone County to a 55-50 win over Mason County on Thursday.

   Schulze drained a pair of free throws to tie the score at 48, and Rebels junior center Brennen McDonald hit two foul shots to give Boone County the lead, 50-48.

   Schulze stole the ball and converted a three-point play to give the Rebels the lead for good.

   Sophomore Brenden Stanley led Boone County with 21 points, and McDonald added 13 as the Rebels won their fifth straight game.

   Junior center Shawn Johnson finished with a team-best 16 points for the Royals.

   HIGHLANDS 57, VILLA MADONNA 45 – Junior guard Drew Houliston scored six of his 11 points during the decisive third quarter for the Bluebirds.

   Highlands led by four at halftime but had opened a 21-point lead entering the final period.

   Senior forward Jake Gronotte led the Bluebirds with 12 points, including five during that key third stanza.

   Blue Lightning senior forward Thomas Steinkoenig led all scorers with 13 points.
