St. Patrick missed a pair of potentially game-tying 3-pointers with time running out as Newport held off the Saints, 44-41 in the Calvary Christian Tournament on Thursday.
Wildcats freshman guard Kylie Orr was 7-for-10 from the field, scoring nine points in the third quarter and hitting a key three late in the fourth. She finished with a team-high 20 points and dished for three assists.
St. Patrick senior guard McKayla Likins led all scorers with 21 points.
Newport will play Friday’s Heritage-Calvary Christian winner in the championship game at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

HIGHLANDS 76, HOLMES 60 – Sophomore guard Alex Combs scored 10 of her 12 points during the decisive second quarter as the Bluebirds took an 18-point lead into the locker room.
Senior forward Leah Schaefer recorded a double-double for Highlands, posting a game-high 24 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Senior forward Jesse Daley scored 16 points after racking up 22 in the Bluebirds’ last win on Tuesday.
