Hatton scores 2,000th point for Dixie

   Dixie Heights junior guard Brandon Hatton eclipsed the 2,000-point mark, but Louisville Doss beat the Colonels, 67-62 in the Panther Classic at Pleasure Ridge Park on Saturday.

   Hatton, who finished with a career-high 40 points, hit a free throw with 1:26 left in regulation to reach that milestone. He finished with 2,008 points.

   Hatton hit 11-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter and was 15-for-17 for the game. He scored 21 points in the first half and 19 after the break.

   Senior center Alex Milligan added 10 points for Dixie Heights, which had a two-game winning streak snapped.

   Sophomore Dujuanta Weaver hit two free throws in the closing second to seal the game for Doss.

   BROSSART 73, CAMPBELL COUNTY 56 – Senior forward Justin Saunders broke the 1,000-point threshold for the Mustangs, finishing with a career-best 30 points.

   Saunders hit a field goal during his 12-point third quarter to reach four figures. He finished the game with 1,009 points.

   Junior center Drew Burns added 14 points, and junior forward Alex Trentman chipped in 13.

   Junior guard Corey Holbrook rolled up a team-best 16 points for the Camels.

   NEWPORT 60, LUDLOW 54 – Senior guard Jasean Short put Newport ahead, 56-54 with 2:50 left in the game after senior forward Marquis Commodore tied the score at 54 with a jumper.

   Short finished with a team-best 16 points, and Commodore added 12.

   Ludlow junior center Jerad Howard led all scorers with 18 points, and Panthers junior forward Mitchell Cody added 17.

   Senior guard Burt Pouncy scored eight points in the decisive third quarter for Holy Cross, finishing with 16 points and four assists.

   Sophomore forward Brenden Stanley led the Rebels with 14 points.
