Ludlow saw its 12-point lead with four minutes remaining dwindle to three, but the Panthers held on for a 50-47 win over Covington Latin in a Region 9 All ‘A’ first-round game at Ludlow on Tuesday.
Sophomore guard Tori Wofford hit a shot with 1:01 left in regulation, and freshman guard Mariah Green-Murphy drained a free throw to help Ludlow hold off the late threat.
Wofford finished with 14 points and three assists, and senior center Emily Kroger added 14 points and seven rebounds. Green-Murphy also reached double figures, rolling up 10 points.
The Trojans were led by senior guard Bridgette Hildreth’s game-high 24 points.
The Panthers will play Lloyd at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Newport Central Catholic.

VILLA MADONNA 40, BEECHWOOD 31 – Senior guard Allie Hennard scored six points in the final 2:30 in the Blue Lightning win in a first-round Region 9 All ‘A’ game at Newport Central Catholic.
Hennard hit a 3-pointer to put Villa Madonna up by six, and she hit three free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
Senior guard Lauren Dumaine led the Blue Lightning in scoring with 15 points, and she grabbed six rebounds. Senior center Morgan Case added 11 boards for Villa Madonna, which committed just six turnovers in the game.
Beechwood hit six 3-pointers, but just one in the second half as the Blue Lightning held the Tigers to just 10 points after the break.

Junior forward Trisha Marks finished with a team-high 13 points for St. Henry, which will play Villa Madonna at 8 p.m. on Friday.
