Pearson scores 28 in Wildcats' loss

Bracken County overcame a 10-point halftime deficit, taking advantage of Newport’s foul trouble, to beat Newport, 76-68 on Saturday.

Phillip Jefferson and Eli Florer combined for 38 points, the bulk coming in the second half.

Jefferson finished with 20 points on the night, Florer 18, to help the Polar Bears to the win despite a 28-point performance by Newport’s Cody Pearson.

CINCINNATI WYOMING 64, BEECHWOOD 54 – The Tigers, despite 19 points from Brandon Marksbery and 15 from Chase Maus, couldn’t overcome a career night by Wyoming’s Ahmed Frost.

The junior guard scored a game-high 34 points to lead the Ohio school to the win.

Beechwood, who trailed by 10 at the half, pulled to within three points heading into the final quarter, but Wyoming pulled back ahead late.
