2/19 GBK: Holmes knocks off Holy Cross

Turner scores 23 in Bulldogs' win

   Holmes hit its final six free throws and 18 of its last 23 as the Bulldogs held off Holy Cross, 61-58 in a District 35 semifinal at Beechwood on Tuesday.

   Sophomore guard Deja Turner, senior guard Tabatha Kilburn and senior center Abby Moore all drained a pair of foul shots late in the fourth quarter to seal it.

   With 3.7 seconds remaining, Holy Cross intercepted a pass and missed a potentially game-tying 35-footer at the buzzer.

   Holmes, which is 2-1 on the season against the Indians, will play Notre Dame in the district final at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

   Turner led all scorers with 23 points, including 15 in the second quarter. Moore grabbed 12 rebounds.

   NOTRE DAME 68, BEECHWOOD 49 – Pandas senior forward Olivia Voskuhl led all scorers with 17 points in a District 35 semifinal at Beechwood.

   Junior guard Elly Ogle added 14 points and junior guard Paige Kellam 11 for Notre Dame, which has won 11 straight games.

   The Pandas will face Holmes in the district championship game at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

   DIXIE HEIGHTS 37, LLOYD 30 – Junior forward Molly Diamon hit a pair of free throws with 37 seconds left to ice the Colonels’ win in a District 34 semifinal at Ludlow.

   Diamon finished with the game with 10 points, eight of which came at the foul line. She also grabbed six rebounds.

   Sophomore center Liza Tibbs also scored 10 points, and she pulled down nine rebounds for Dixie Heights, which will play St. Henry in the final at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

   ST. HENRY 50, VILLA MADONNA 21 – Crusaders senior guard Kelly Coburn led all scorers with 17 points, and she stole the ball three times in a District 34 semifinal at Ludlow.

   Coburn went 5-for-12 from behind the arc, scoring six points in the second and third quarters as Simon Kenton finished with 10 assists and just eight turnovers as a team.

   Sophomore center Savannah Neace added nine points, 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks, and junior forward Trisha Marks chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds for St. Henry, which will face Dixie Heights in the district final at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
