Calvary Christian survived a late comeback attempt by Silver Grove to eliminate the Big Trains from the 37th District tournament with a 59-58 win Monday night at Campbell County Middle School in Alexandria.
Junior forward Nick Whitt had a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while senior center Travis Theaderman nearly followed suit with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Junior guard John Moran added 14 points, making 10 of 14 free throws. Moran was seven of nine from the line in the fourth quarter when the Cougars made 13 of 20 as a team.
Silver Grove, which beat Calvary three times during the regular season, was nearly able to erase a five point deficit in the final five minutes.
Freshman guard Christian Pollitt was fouled on a 3-point attempt, making the first two free throws. The Big Trains were able to put in a basket after Pollitt missed the third shot, and even got the ball back on a jump ball with one second remaining, but were unable to move ahead.
Pollitt paced Silver Grove with 16 points, scoring 13 of those in the fourth quarter. Pollitt had three of his four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Calvary Christian moves on to play Scott in the semifinals Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Campbell County Middle School.

LUDLOW 48, VILLA MADONNA 47 – Senior guard Chris Yates drained Ludlow’s 10th 3-pointer of the game with less than 20 seconds remaining in overtime, giving Ludlow a one-point lead it would not let go in the 34th District tournament.
Junior Jacob Smalley also hit a 3-pointer in overtime for the Panthers while senior guard Kenny Kurzendoerfer had all five of the Blue Lightning’s points in overtime.
Ludlow started the game with five treys in the first quarter, getting two each from sophomore forward Mitchell Cody and sophomore guard Geoffrey Thornsburg and another from sophomore Jerad Howard.
Junior guard Andy Piccirillo countered with all nine of his points in the second quarter as the Blue Lightning were able to move ahead, 25-23, by halftime.

CARROLL COUNTY 55, EMINENCE 42 – Junior forward Trey Boles scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter, including back-to-back 3-pointers that helped Carroll County pull away in the 31st District at Owen County.
Junior guard Brandon Stewart made five of six free throws in the fourth quarter, making seven of 10 in the game in scoring nine points.
Junior center Dallas Gibson led the Panthers with 22 points, scoring half of those in the third quarter.
Brandon Mitchell led Eminence with 15 points.
Carroll County moves on to play Owen County in the semifinals Thursday at Owen County.

RYLE 83, HERITAGE 38 – Junior guard Drew Mays scored 10 of his 16 points in the first quarter as the Raiders opened up a 29-5 lead after one quarter in the 33rd District tournament at Conner.
Sophomore forward Will Stuhr added 12 points off the bench for Ryle.
Heritage was led by junior forward Zac Smith, who scored 14 points.
Ryle will play Boone County in the semifinals Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Conner.

BEECHWOOD 91, COVINGTON LATIN 41 – Seniors Corey Cruse and Cameron Vocke had nine points each in the second quarter, when Beechwood scored 34 points in its 35th District win at Beechwood.
Cruse and Vocke each finished with 18 points, followed by 16 from junior guard Carter Richardson.
