Sophomore right-hander Katlyn Hoeh tossed a shutout, striking out 12 as Newport blanked Dayton, 6-0 in the teams’ season opener on Thursday.
Freshman shortstop Kylie Orr drove in the first two Wildcats’ runs on RBI groundouts in the first and third innings.
Senior left fielder Skye Raleigh singled home two to key a three-run fourth inning for Newport.
