Newport Central Catholic rolled to a 26-shot win in the All ‘A’ Region 9 Tournament at Kenton County Willows Course on Monday.
Senior Colin DuPont led the Thoroughbreds with a 4-over 76, tying St. Henry sophomore Luke Tobergte for medalist.
NewCath sophomore Matt Striegel finished one stroke back of the leaders with a 77.
Tobergte and Beechwood’s Mitch Schilling qualified for the state tournament as individuals. Schilling shot an 83.
The state All ‘A’ tournament will be held on Sept. 8 at Eagle’s Nest in Somerset.
TEAM SCORES: 1. NewCath 315; 2. St. Henry 341; 3. Beechwood 362; 4. Villa Madonna 412; 5. Holy Cross 427.
RYLE WINS TOURNAMENT – Ryle fired a 306 to win by 10 strokes in the South Warren Invitational at Indian Hills Country Club in Bowling Green.
Sophomore Austin Squires, who drained six birdies, led the Raiders with a 74 – five strokes away from the medalist.
WALTON-VERONA 165, TRIMBLE COUNTY 172 – Sophomore Jacob Poore led the field by two strokes with his score of 38.
Poore opened his round with a consecutive birdies.
MEDALIST: Poore (WV) 2-over 38 on the front nine at Cardinal Hills. RECORD: Walton-Verona 2-0.
