Panthers pound Silver Grove

Ludlow sank 14 3-pointers in defeating Silver Grove, 72-40, Monday in Ludlow.

Sophomore Jerad Howard was four-for-four from behind the arc, all in the first half, in scoring a game-best 16 points.

Junior forward Jacob Smalley added a career-high 15 points by making all five of his shots from the floor, including three-for-three from 3-point range, also making both his free throws. Smalley had three assists as well.

In all, the Panthers were 14-for-29 from 3-point range (48.3 percent) and 24 for 63 from the field (38.1 percent).

Silver Grove was led by guard Christian Pollitt, who made four 3-pointers in the second half to score 12 points.

NEWPORT 58, CINCINNATI RIVERVIEW EAST 56 – Brothers JaSean and JaQuin Short combined for 27 points to help the Wildcats hold off the Hawks.

Junior guard JaSean Short scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half. Sophomore forward JaQuin followed with 10 points.

Marquel Whitfield and Tyler Lamb led Riverview East with 12 points each. Rick Wallace followed with 11, scoring nine in the fourth quarter.

Riverview East had a shot to tie to the score at the end of regular that fell off the rim.

NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 67, RYLE 53 – Junior forward Nick Siebert scored 10 of his 21 points in the second half, enabling the Thoroughbreds to pull away.

Ryle led by two, 36-34, at halftime, and trailed by just three, 53-50, entering the fourth quarter, but NewCath held the Raiders to just three points in the final quarter.

Senior guard Brady Hightchew had 19 points, scoring 10 points in the first quarter and making three of four free throws in the fourth quarter.

NewCath made eight of 10 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Drew Mays led Ryle with 19 points, draining four 3-pointers.
