After dropping three straight games, the NewCath Thoroughbreds turned things around in a big way as district play kicked off Friday night by downing the Brossart Mustangs, 58-0.
NewCath (2-3, 1-0) put a pair of first-quarter TD’s on the board as Jake Cain connected with Mac Franzen on a 36-yard TD pass and running back Dylan Hayes punched in a score from eight yards out. It would be more than enough.
Cain finished the night by completing 8-of-12 passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns in limited action. Hayes led all rushers with 90 yards and a TD on just nine first-half carries.
The ‘Breds blew up in the second quarter, outscoring Bishop Brossart (1-3, 0-1) 30-0 during the frame.
The Mustangs suffered an even bigger loss than the game itself when senior Jacob Ellbert was forced from the game with what appeared to be a significant knee injury and did not return.
NewCath travels to Holmes next Friday while Brossart heads to Erlanger to face a red-hot Lloyd team.
