Sophomore center Drew McDonald scored 22 points to lead Newport Central Catholic to a 50-42 win in the District 36 championship game at Highlands on Thursday.
The Thoroughbreds built an eight-point second-quarter lead, which they did not relinquish.
Senior forward Marquis Commodore paced the Wildcats with 12 points.
Both teams advance to the Region 9 tournament at Northern Kentucky University next week.
