Christina Cook carried the momentum she had in the district tournament over to regionals.
The junior guard, who was named most valuable player of the District 32 Tournament, scored 20 points and dished for a pair of assists in Simon Kenton’ 51-31 win over Owen County in a Region 8 quarterfinal at North Oldham on Wednesday.
Cook, who averages 11 points per game, finished 7-of-14 from the field and hit 5-of-6 free throws.
Junior guard Abby Owings added 12 points, all on 3-pointers, including a pair of treys in the first quarter. She went 4-for-10 from behind the arc, stole the ball seven times and dished for three assists.
Senior forward Paige Bosse rolled up eight points, 10 rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot and a steal as Simon Kenton advances to play Collins at 6 p.m. on Monday.
The Pioneers’ last win in a regional semifinal came in 2010 when they went to the Region 8 championship game.
