1. Redsfest

Yes, Cincinnati sports fan are undeniably bitter about the outcome of the Reds’ post-season performance. A season characterized by hope and promise ended in a 3-2 series loss to the San Francisco Giants. All that is behind us now, though, with Redsfest, the annual two-day winter warm-up for the 2013 season.

The event will be held at the Duke Energy Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati, featuring games and activities for all ages, including set times for open swing at Great American Ball Park. Attendees can meet past, current and future stars of the Reds.

2. The City Flea

It’s the same City Flea shindig you’ve come to expect, colored with sounds, sights and smells from local artisans all available for your purchase. In honor of the bustling holiday shopping season, this flea goes European Christkindlmarket-style in honor of the famous holiday fest held annually in Nuremburg, Germany.

This festive nighttime market in a glistening Washington Park holds all the trinkets you need to satisfy the small-biz supporters and artsy types on your shopping list. Santa Claus is also expected to make an appearance.

5. Japp's hosts 1930s style repeal party

Imagine: It's Dec. 5, 1933. It’s been 14 long, dry years since the sale of alcohol has been legal in the U.S.; today, the 21st Amendment changes all that. Crowds swarm the local speakeasies, celebration erupts. It’s been 79 years since prohibition was repealed, but alcohol consumption is still an integral part of today’s culture, so we’ll keep on rejoicing those flowing taps.

Japp’s hosts a “Get Wet” repeal party throwback to the 1930s; a live band will play 1930s music and guests are encouraged to dress 1930s style (that means fedoras, plaid, tailored suits and other Sears catalogue accouterments). Say “George Remus” (the famous prohibition-era Cincinnati lawyer and bootlegger) for special drink prices on repeal-era cocktails. Don’t miss saucy performances from Cin City Burlesque and a wild DJ Havination dance party.

It's the party everyone will be talking about this weekend. Find out when it takes place here (http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/entertainment/citybeat/event-japps-get-wet-repeal-party) .

6. Powerhouse Factories' holiday after-party

If the work holiday party isn’t exactly your idea of the perfect evening — but you’re obligated to spend a little time schmoozing and elbow-rubbing — Powerhouse Factories in Newport offers its annual holiday after party as an antidote. Whether you’re looking for a poster for your cooler-than-you sibling (who always knows about the best new bands before you) or just looking for a place to blow off a little work steam, this is the place to be.

The first 50 guests will receive a free holiday party poster, and all posters are buy one get one half off. Spend your money on limited edition posters designed and printed by local artists instead of some mass-produced tchotchke at a department store. Your conscious and gift grantees will be happy you did.

7. Ensemble Theatre presents "Alice in Wonderland"

Ensemble Theatre has reinvented the classic holiday show "Alice in Wonderland" by adding a contemporary, family-friendly twist, decorated with new songs, costumes and performers.

This fairytale is rewritten with families in mind, offering humor — including contemporary cultural references — that appeals to all ages. In Alice, children can pick up a meaningful lesson or two about behavior and life that feel more like entertainment than morality.

8. Indie band Chappo performs in Oakley

Brooklyn’s Chappo had another stellar year in its short lifespan in 2012, the culmination of what has been a fairly meteoric rise in the Indie music world. The trippy, playful Indie Pop four-piece recorded its first EP, Plastique Universe, on its own in 2010, never dreaming that the EP lead-off track, “Come Home,” would wind up in an international iPod Touch ad campaign.

The group returned to its living room to record another EP last year, which helped cement its place as a rising star in the Indie universe.

The band plays at 20th Century Theatre in Oakley this weekend. Find out more here (http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/entertainment/citybeat/local_music/chappo-to-perform-at-20th-century-in-oakley) .

9. Comedian Maronzio Vance at Funny Bone

Comedian Maronzio Vance hails from North Carolina, but he refuses to admit he’s from the South; after all, his home state starts with “North.” His storytelling style covers a variety of topics, including shopping.

In addition to doing stand-up, Vance also acts and hosts his own podcast called Just Killing Time with Maronzio Vance during which he has a conversation with another comic and talks about whatever’s on his mind when he turns on the mic.

He performs at the Funny Bone this weekend. Click here (http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/entertainment/citybeat/comedy-maronzio-vance) for more info.
