CINCINNATI - This year marks the first for the Bunbury Festival, which takes place at Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove from July 13-15. The festival is founded by veteran music promoter Bill Donabedian, who launched the MidPoint Music Festival and was the managing director of Fountain Square for five years.

Headlining acts include Jane’s Addiction, Weezer and Death Cab for Cutie, but perhaps one of the more popular acts, Neon Trees, takes the stage Sunday night before the headliner. In addition to national bands, several local acts will also be featured. Hundreds of bands will perform on six stages over the course of three days.

“The Bunbury Music Festival will feature the best of our local Indie bands with national and regional bands that fans may have seen at other great festivals and concert venues,” said Donabedian. “Fans should think of this as an authentic music experience.”

Yahoo recently compiled 2012's Essential Music Festivals to see this year and Cincinnati's own Bunbury Music Festival made the cut. So if you were looking for a festival to attend this summer, the good news is you won't have to travel far.

Since this is the first year for the event, we've compiled a guide to help you figure out how to buy tickets, what bands are performing, what to bring, and who to see.

The Bands

First thing's first: Who's playing and who should you see? Everyone/everything is probably the best answer, but the least realistic. It may be tough to see all of your favorite acts.

Below are all the bands listed for the three day event, what time and on what stage they'll be performing (map of stages below), which includes national, regional and local musicians. (NOTE: Mobile and tablet users, go to a browser version of WCPO.com for a cleaner version of the band list)

Ticket Info

Tickets are still available for the festival. Either one day or three-day tickets can be purchased.

A one-day ticket is $46 (plus fees) and a three-day ticket is $93 (plus fees).

The festival recently announced that children 10 and under will be admitted for free, as long as they are accompanied by an adult ticket holder.

Transportation options

While traffic won't be directly affected as a result of the festival, with the World Choir Games, the Reds and Bunbury Festival all on the riverfront this weekend, parking will be hard to find.

Taxis are recommended, but if you want to enjoy the festival without having to worry about transportation, Bunbury is offering an option. The Rock & Bus bus service will be available to shuttle fans to and from the festival in July.

The company is accepting reservations for groups and will provide a round trip service from their neighborhoods to Yeatman's Cove at Sawyer Point, according to Bunbury's website. The charter buses are equipped with TVs, DVD players and a speaker system in addition to a bathroom.

What to bring/not bring

Nearly every venue has a different set of rules when it comes to an event. However, Bunbury has supplied its patrons with a list of “do’s and don’ts” for this year’s festival.

Below are some examples of how you should prepare.

Things to bring: Sun gear, chairs or blankets to sit on, bug repellent, rain gear (the event is rain or shine) and earplugs.

Things NOT to bring: No bikes, skateboards, scooters, glass containers, professional photography equipment, bills over $20, pets, coolers or grocery bags

If you are bringing a child to the event, either a stroller or a small wagon is acceptable.

Water stations will be setup throughout the festival, which organizers encourage fans to use during the three days.

Bunbury features new Moerlein brew

The Christian Moerlein Brewing Company and Hudepohl will debut a new beer at the festival, specifically for Bunbury.

The brewery will unveil Hudepohl Summer Pils which is "for the Bunbury Music Festival and summer festivals in mind," according to Christian Moerlein president Greg Hardman.

The Moerleing Exposition Lager (Vienne lager) will also be featured in addition to Hudephohl Amber Lager and Moerlein OTR.

“We are thrilled that Christian Moerlein has joined us at Bunbury as the official local beer,” said Donabedian. “In an era where craft beers are making a comeback in Cincinnati, it is exciting to have our city’s brewery heritage represented so well by a local brewer.”
