Washington Park grand opening

Washington Park was once deemed as Cincinnati’s second oldest park, having been around since 1855. Now, after more than $50 million in renovation and expansion, it will stand as the city’s newest — though, of course, still tipping its hat to good ol’ history. After all, its historic value is what set it apart in the first place, holding memories and remains from the Civil War and The Centennial Exposition of the Ohio Valley of 1888.

The public park will be reopening with a quintessential ribbon cutting ceremony directed by Mayor Mark Mallory and Cincinnati Parks Director Willie Carden. Summer campers from Emanuel Center and Peaslee Center will join the two, adding an adorable touch to the already pleasing event. As far as festivities go, attendees can expect to see circus performers from My Nose Turns Red, free popsicles from Streetpops, free waffles and iced tea from Taste of Belgium, plus musical entertainment and more. If that’s not a grand opening, then what is?
