It can cost hundreds of dollars to buy the fertilizer needed to green up your yard. But now, there is one way to do it, without spending a lot of green.

Here is what you need: Epsom salt, water and a water can.

Combine 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt and one gallon of water in a water can. Dump the solution on your plants once a month.

So why Epsom salt? That is because it is made up of magnesium and sulfate both of which are vital plant nutrients.

Another type of homemade fertilizer adds a few more ingredients but delivers the same results.

Take a one gallon container and combine 1 tablespoon Epsom Salts, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. household ammonia.

If you are unsure if this is the right combination for you, test it out on a plant that is not showcased in your front or backyard and see if it does work for you. If not, then try mixing the ingredients again until you get it right.
