DETROIT - Chrysler is recalling almost 2,500 Dodge Challengers because of a possible short-circuit that could cause a fire.

The company says the short-circuit could cause the wire harness to overheat, leading to a fire.

The affected cars are all 2013 Dodge Challengers with V-6 engines that were assembled during an eight week period that ended January 24, 2013.

The company says affected owners are being contacted by telephone of mail. They are being told to immediately stop driving their cars and contact their dealers. The company also says owners should not park their vehicles in or near any structures.

Chrysler is providing owners with free loaner vehicles until repairs are completed.

The company says 4,459 vehicles in all are covered by the recall. However, approximately 1,900 of those are still in dealer hands.
