CINCINNATI - If you’ve been to Kenwood Towne Centre lately, you’ve probably noticed what property managers are calling a “refresh” of the mall’s common areas.
Mall owner General Growth Properties is investing in new ceilings, tile and lighting throughout the mall, said Cindy Hart, the mall’s marketing manager. The idea is to make the rest of the mall look more like the newest wing near Nordstrom, she said.
“The mall will definitely have an updated, fresher look,” Hart said.
General Growth Properties doesn’t release information about how much it’s spending on the construction work, she said, and the work happens at night so as not to interfere with business at the mall located at 7875 Montgomery Road .
The biggest physical change will come in the mall’s wing near the Apple store. There, a fountain is being removed and ramps are being added next to stairs so people using wheelchairs and strollers have better access, Hart said.
The work follows the completion of a major food court renovation at the mall finished just before the Christmas holidays.
Hart said she expects a number of tenants to change locations this year, too.
F.Y.E., the music, books and entertainment store, is scheduled to close its Kenwood Towne Centre location in the coming weeks. Hart said the mall already has another tenant lined up for the second-level, 5,400 square foot space. But the lease hasn’t been signed so she couldn’t reveal the name.
The mall announced Thursday that Flip Flop Shops will open in March. Hart said the store will be located on the shopping center’s lower level near Macy’s.
