INDIANAPOLIS - Four teenagers were injured, three critically, in a fiery crash on Indianapolis' west side Tuesday.

The crash happened just before noon in the 800 block of South Mickley Avenue, near Washington Street and Lynhurst Drive.

Witnesses said a 14-year-old girl was driving with three teenage boys in the car when she came up over a hill, lost control and struck a tree, causing the car to burst into flames.

Resident Donnie Ensey said he was working in his yard just before the crash.

“They come speeding through here all the time. They were doing about 70 (mph) when they came up over the hill. I was riding my lawnmower and they came flying up over that hill and went airborne. I got the hell out of the way,” Ensey said.

All four people were out of the car when first responders arrived. It's believed that bystanders may have pulled some of the teens from the car.

“(The 14-year-old girl) was airborne. By the time she landed, the car was on fire,” Ensey said.

“I came over here to watch like everyone else and saw it was my friends,” said Keondre Cooksey, who witnessed the crash.

The three boys were taken to Riley Hospital for Children in critical condition. The girl was taken to Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the 14-year-old girl faces possible charges of driving without a license and charges related to the injuries of the other three passengers, but the final decision rests with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
