CINCINNATI - Ringing in the New Year for the Wolstenholm household didn't include cocktails and watching the ball drop.

Rather, the Wolstenholms welcomed a baby girl into their lives at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday as the first Tri-State baby born in 2013.

Hadley Ann Wolstenholm weighed in at 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 20 inches long when she was born at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center Labor and Delivery Unit.

Registered nurse Kelly Hickman-Begley explained how the labor and delivery unit at UC Medical Center greatly anticipates and monitors which area hospital will welcome in the region's the first baby born in the New Year.

"We kind of keep track of which hospital is close to having that New Year's baby," Begley said. "To actually get that baby is pretty exciting, and exciting for the family."

The parents, Jason and Bree-Ann, arrived at the hospital at approximately 6 p.m. Monday to induce Hadley Ann as doctors were cognizant of possible complications because of Bree-Ann's diabetes.

The excitement swelled into the night, because after carrying her daughter a full 40-week term, Bree-Anne was ready. She joked about hoping Hadley Ann being born on Dec. 31 to be able to get the tax deduction, but she was merely joking.

"She is healthy and everything went well," Bree-Ann said. "That's all you can really ask."

Bree-Ann's husband, Jason, agreed.

"If she was born [in the] middle of the day yesterday and was the last baby of the old year (2012), what's it matter as long as the baby is healthy?" Jason asked rhetorically.
