COVINGTON, Ky. - A 17-year-old Covington resident was sentenced Tuesday for the robbery and shooting death of another teenager last year.
Mikael Crumes was sentenced in Kenton County Circuit Court to 30 years in prison for killing 16-year-old Dre'Shawn Hammond in June 2011. Crumes shot Hammond four times as the two teens and another boy were walking down a trail from the City Heights housing complex to the Latonia Terrace housing complex.
Crumes also was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the robbery, which is to be served concurrently with the homicide sentence.
A jury previously convicted Crumes on the charges.
Hammond's family was in the courtroom for the sentencing and cried during the proceedings.
