CINCINNATI - National Memory Screening Day is Tuesday and to celebrate it, local Tri-State businesses are offering free memory tests to the public.
National Memory Screening Day is an annual initiative of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America to help provide early testing for memory problems.
The Kenwood by Senior Star will offer free screenings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.on Tuesday. The Kenwood by Senior Star is located at 5435 Kenwood Road in Cincinnati.
The event is free and open to the public. Appointments are not necessary. Free educational materials regarding memory concerns, dementia, caregiving and successful aging will also be available.
For more information, you can call (513) 561-9300 or email Kenwood@seniorstar.com .
Senior Star says 5.4 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, with another American developing the diseases every 69 seconds. Memory Screenings are a significant first step toward finding out if a person may have a memory issue.
Northern Kentucky residents can also get free memory screenings on Tuesday.
This offer is from a local in-home senior care company called Senior Helpers of Florence. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. people can visit Colonial Heights & Gardens Senior Living, to take a free five to 10-minute test that reveals information about their cognitive ability and memory.
Colonial Heights & Gardens Senior Living is located at 6900 Hopeful Road in Florence.
The tests don't diagnose dementia or Alzheimer's but simply point out if someone should take a follow-up exam. The Senior Helpers company says last year, 60,000 people took advantage of free memory screenings at its 300 locations nationwide.
