CINCINNATI - More than 2,200 people are expected to participate in the 11th annual Paddlefest event that starts Thursday.

The three-day event is the nation's largest gathering of paddlers. Event organizers say participants are traveling to the Tri-State this weekend from 18 states.

Paddlefest starts Thursday with the Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo at Coney Island. More than 5,000 children are already registered for the day-long event.

The main draw is the Annual Paddle the Ohio event on Saturday. Canoers and kayakers will paddle 8.2 miles along the Ohio River. They'll start at Coney Island and travel to the Cincinnati Public Landing. Registration is required to participate.

The Gold Star Finish Line Festival will follow the Paddle the Ohio event that includes live music, exhibitors, food and beverages. It starts at 10:30 a.m. and runs until 2:30 p.m. The event is free to the public.

The river will be closed to barges and powerboats Saturday starting at 7:15 a.m.

Cincy Pedalfest is also taking place Saturday. Bikers will start at Sawyer Point and ride a 19.5 mile loop. There is a registration fee for participants.
