CINCINNATI - Breast cancer survivors and supporters made their way downtown Sunday to participate in the Making Strides walk, which was designed to generate money for the American Cancer Society.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a five-mile walk that starts at Yeatman’s Cove, passes through downtown Cincinnati and Newport, and ends back at Yeatman’s Cove.

An estimated 16,000 people were in attendance and/or participated in Sunday's walk. The 2012 walk raised approximately $600,000.

The American Cancer Society says the walk is an easy, fun and effective way to fight breast cancer.

Making Strides says its mission is helping people get well, stay well, find cures and fight back.

"Every dollar we raise here helps fight breast cancer,” said Meredith Niemeyer, regional vice president for the American Cancer Society. “Every person has been touched by cancer. You're really truly making a difference."

WCPO is the proud media sponsor for the walk.
