CINCINNATI - Car thieves look for the perfect opportunities to strike. Whether it's an unlocked car or engine left on even for a minute can give a criminal an opening. And, the reality is that most of us at one time or another has said, "I will just run into the store for a minute."

But, that short amount of time is all it takes according to Lt. Tom Butler of the Hamilton County Sheriff Department.

“By the time you go into the store, wait in line, pay for your gas or whatever you're getting, You come back out and your car is gone.  You've already given them a head start," he said.

9 On Your Side Anchor Larry Smith demonstrates live how far a car can get in just one minute.
