Tri-State prepares for Round 2 of winter storms and icy roads

Cincinnati Public Works had 60 trucks salting city streets Friday night into Saturday morning in preparation of icy road conditions.

The Tri-State is expecting 2 to 4 inches of snow in the second storm this winter. A Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory are in effect for most of the Tri-State until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Salt truck drivers are working 12-hour rotating shifts until the roads are covered and the snow stops sticking.

Officials with Public Works say depending on the weather, plans can change.

“We put together a basic plan of what we see coming forward until the midnight hour. At midnight, I also go in and address another plan and how we are going to move forward after that,” Operations Manager Greg Courtland said. "We’re going to start out with our plows on our trucks because we are expecting some accumulation versus the other night when we knew we were going to start out with some rain and sleet.”

Greg Schott is one of the many people making a stop to pick up materials for Saturday's storm.  

“On the way home I had heard it was supposed to snow again tomorrow. I figured I better have some. I have a little left but I wanted to be sure. I didn’t hardly use any last year,” Schott said as he paid for his driveway salt.

Bridget Hamilton has seen a variety of additional winter items on the shelves at the Ace Hardware store she works at. This year she notes people are taking advantage of it.  

“Last year people didn’t buy a whole lot so they’re unprepared,” she said.
