NEWPORT, Ky. - Police are investigating a stabbing that happened at a Newport park early Monday morning.

Police say a suspect stabbed a male victim at General James Taylor Park on Riverboat Row near the Taylor-Southgate Bridge in Newport, Ky., at about midnight. The victim, who police later identified as 29-year-old Freddy Morales, sustained cuts on his wrists possibly from a broken bottle.

Police say Morales walked to a friend's apartment in the Riverchase Apartments on Riverboat Row for help. After he arrived, he collapsed and his friend called 911 for help, according to authorities.

Police say Morales was unresponsive and they were not able to speak with him before he was taken University Hospital for treatment. Officials have not released information about the victim's injuries or his current condition.

Newport police are leading the investigation, but Highland Heights, Ft. Thomas and Campbell County police are also assisting in the search for the stabbing suspect.
