Monday marks 27 years since the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger.

On Jan. 28, 1986, the shuttle blew up 73 seconds after liftoff from Cape Canaveral, killing all seven crew members.

Among the crew members was schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe. The others were Ellison Onizuka, Greg Jarvis, Judy Resnik, Mike Smith, Dick Scobee and Ron McNair.

After a comprehensive examination, NASA determined that the cold weather on the day contributed to an O-ring failure.
