LOS ANGELES - The Rev. Rick Warren says acts of violence like the school shootings in Newtown, Conn., arise from the rage of empty hearts that God sent his son Jesus to heal.

On Fox News Sunday, the pastor of California's 22,000-member Saddleback Church said, "When we don't have peace in our hearts we're not going to have peace with each other." Warren said, "That's why Jesus, the Prince of Peace, came at Christmas."

He compared the shootings of 20 small children at Sandy Hook Elementary School to King Herod's slaughter of children after Jesus was born. But Warren said the angels over Bethlehem proclaimed that Jesus' birth would bring reconciliation, salvation and celebration.
