CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Zoo’s “Zoo Babies” which starts May 1, received a head start with the birth of a Bactrian camel this week
The new male camel was born at 3:15p.m. Monday and immediately started bonding with his mother Saarai. Three-year-old father Humphrey watched from an adjoining exhibit.
The camel birth was the first at the zoo in nearly 30 years. The new camel calf was displayed to the public Thursday morning for the first time.
“After nearly 30 years, it’s especially exciting to see a baby camel again at the Cincinnati Zoo,” said Thane Maynard, Executive Director of the Cincinnati Zoo.
The zoo is holding a naming contest for the new baby with (Henry, Lyn, and Cain) as the choices. You can vote for the new baby's name by going to www.cincinnatizoo.org through Monday April 30. The winning name will be announced on Tuesday, May 1.
