COVINGTON, Ky. - Catholics across the Tri-State celebrated the election and inauguration of Pope Francis Thursday evening.
The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington was filled with worshippers at the Mass of Thanksgiving.
“The cardinals of the church have given us our new Holy Father, shepherd of the universal church, the bishop of Rome, Pope Francis," Bishop Roger Foys said during the service.
Foys asked the congregation to pray that Pope Francis will have many fruitful years leading the Catholic Church.
