Family of murdered Florence couple hopes new billboard will lead to tips

FLORENCE, Ky. - The family of a Florence couple found murdered in their home is doing everything they can to find closure.

It’s been more than a year since the murder of Bill and Peggy Stephenson and investigators have yet to name a suspect.

"It can't come soon enough," said Beth Victor, the Stephensons' daughter.

Bill and Peggy were found murdered in their Florence home in May 2011.

Police have made progress in the case. In August they announced that they believe they have the DNA of the killer, but no match.

The family of the slain couple paid to have a message shown on a digital billboard along I-71/I-75 south in Covington.

The billboard shows a picture of the Stephensons along with a number to call for anyone who may know something about the case.

"We hope plenty of people will see it, and you know the truckers will talk to each other, and something will happen here real soon," Victor said.

The billboard also highlights the $100,000 reward being offered for information that leads to an arrest.

Detectives tell 9 News that since increasing the reward on Aug. 30, there have a number of good, credible tips coming into the department.

Officials say they are following up with each and every tip they receive.

The Stephenson family hopes the new sign, along with others in Boone County, will help in the investigation.
