HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Thousands of students are getting ready to leave the nest this weekend.

Freshmen at Northern Kentucky University and Xavier University are spending Friday morning moving into their new on-campus homes.

At NKU, the class of 2016 will start moving into dorms at 9 a.m.

The freshmen move-in marks the start of 2012 Welcome Week at NKU. New school President Geoffrey Mearns will address freshmen and their families at a convocation Friday. Social events and informational workshops are also scheduled for the next week to make the transition to college easier for the new students.

Across the river, 1,092 new students will be settling into dorms at Xavier University Friday morning.

Xavier says more than 200 volunteers are preparing to help new students and their families unload cars and get settled in.

Classes begin Monday for both Xavier and NKU students.
