INDEPENDENCE, Ky. - The Kenton County dispatch center is getting bigger – 2,700 square feet bigger.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday as the county moves closer toward consolidating dispatch services. A 2,700 square-foot expansion to the existing communication center near the intersection of Kentucky 17 and Nicholson Road will provide resources and space to handle countywide dispatch responsibilities.

Once complete, dispatchers will be moved to a separate building next to the Kenton County Police Department in Independence. Dispatchers currently manage 911 calls for Covington, Independence, Ryland Heights and several unincorporated areas of the county.

The winning bid by DAG Construction was the lowest among a group of competitively priced bids that met the 100-day construction schedule, according to the office of the Kenton County Judge/Executive Steve Arlinghaus.

Figures on how much the expansion will cost were not released.
